What Are Foam Letters?

Foam letters signage means three-dimensional letters or logos made from foam substrates—used mostly for interiors (walls, events, displays) and sometimes outdoors with the right material/coating. They’re lightweight, cost-effective, and can be painted or laminated to mimic metal or acrylic for Medium - Short Term on outdoors.

• Common materials: EPS/XPS (polystyrene): light, great for large event letters; indoor or short-term outdoor with hardcoat.
• PVC foamboard (Sintra): rigid, clean edges; mainly indoor.
• HDU (high-density urethane): dense, carvable; best for exterior when primed/painted properly.
• Typical thickness: ½″–3″+ (HDU can be thicker for carved looks).
• Finishes: painted (Pantone/RAL), textured, or laminated faces (acrylic/metal/veneer) for a premium look.
• Mounting: double-sided tape + adhesive for small/light pieces; stud mounts or cleats for larger letters; freestanding bases for event props.
• Uses: lobby walls, retail displays, stage/trade-show letters, photo backdrops, directional branding.
